Teaching in the parish

This blog is to share the teaching within the parish

We are a parish who worship in four churches whilst being one worshipping community. Those who teach and preach within the parish wish to share what we believe God is sharing with us as we journey into the local communities and those in the wider areas.

So today in our readings we have specific teaching about life Firstly from Paul as he talks about life in the spirit not life lived just of the things of the flesh the world but life from the Spirit of God living in each of us.. Then we move on to the sower the sower Is often thought to be God God who through Jesus gives new life to us all God who loves each of us with a lavish extravagant love an inexhaustible love a self sacrificial love a love that he continues through his spirit to pour out on all creation all life all people This afternoon those being baptised adults and babies all ages receive the same spirit the Holy Spirit the life giving love of God the equipping of God the power of God poured abundantly on everyone equally And God is so clear that he will just pour and pour pour out his spirit his word, his love on all people in the most unlikely places and in some of those places God’s love will take root live and flourish.. Take root and flourish as people reach out to help each other work together for the healing and the restoration of all people even those who do not yet know him.. even those we don't think are worthy God will pour his love and his spirit upon all people in all places for all people in all places Yet in our humanity our capacity for love is so much less to that of God so much less than the abundant love of God We often feel the need protect ourselves Many of us often feel the need to guard the amount of love we receive Many of us often feel the need to need to guard the amount of love we give But God does not love in the way we do.. We often want to measure equate love to being earned But God has loved us before we did or even were anything Now that’s abundant love psalm 139 tells us We were loved from before we were born.. Extravagant love We see so much in the world that is not love If ever there has been a time for extravagance extravagant passionate love it is now. Because when we allow the love of God to live fully in us That love changes us So just take a few moments to think about the ways in which God has showered love on you.. Did you accept it joyfully.. with thanks and delight or did you see it as your right your right for all you have done and all you do? or your right for how hard things in life have been? How many of us have decided who God should love and save and who couldn't possibly be worthy to receive God’s love ? Most of us have experienced all those feelings. We get frustrated as peoples behaviours and attitudes are different to ours. we might want God to visit God’s judgment on others rather than restore them to wholeness. It’s frustrating.isn't it… Why does God do that? Well all I can say is God’s love is boundless he wastes it extravagantly and in his extravagance makes his love truly available for everyone. God always reaches out to us. and the parable tells us ways in which we can loose that love So… knowing the love of God is extravagant abundant knowing the ways we can so easily let that love go what are you going to do about it? If we are letting the seeds of love grow what is your soil like? does it need some fertiliser if so you might want to spend a little more time in prayer you might want to spend a little time with others reflecting you might want to read our bible with others you we might want to minister share the love we receive with others Some of you will say … “Its ok thanks” I don’t want to do anything to improve .. “I’m ok… doing enough..” Or "I don’t have time for this abundant love.” Well That’s OK….. God is very patient. But for me.. well I cannot ignore the lavish, extravagant, generous love of God God’s love God’s forgiveness God’s redemption is limitless and will not be held back by us There are no limits on the love of God on his word Not one of us have done anything to deserve this love but grace love joy peace patient kindness goodness faithfulness gentleness self control are fruits of the spirit of God within us the love of God within us will produce good fruit when we let the love of God root deeply in our hearts our minds and our actions again and again and again..
